But every once in a while, a product comes along that seems to tick all the boxes. The Galen Leather Expansi-Pouch is one such gem. Let me show you why this handcrafted leather pouch might just be the perfect companion for your favorite pens.

What is it?

The Galen Leather Expansi-Pouch is an A6-sized leather pen case with slots for 10 pens or pen-sized accessories.

What’s included?

Galen Leather sent me the Expansi-Pouch along with some other surprises that included their A6 sized notebook and a separate zippered pouch of assorted goodies. Just a note that the A6 notebook is NOT included with the purchase and 

The zippered cloth pouch includes a thank you note, Turkish coffee, tea, a towelette, a single leather pen sleeve, a good luck evil eye charm, a 10% off coupon, and some stickers. The contents of the goodie pouch change frequently as does the color of the pouch itself.

Galen also sent me one of their A6-sized notebooks so that I could test how well it fits inside the Expansi Pouch.

The 160 mm x 125 mm x 55mm (6.3″ x 5″ x 2.2″) sized pouch is gorgeous. It’s available in six colors, but I picked the undyed vegetable-tanned leather version because I love how undyed natural leather changes over time. You can actually put it in the sun and it will “tan” like your skin. 

Undyed leather develops a patina with use and time that I really enjoy. 

The pouch is perfectly hand stitched with waxed polyamide thread. A YKK metal zipper wraps around three sides that allow it to open like a book.

Inside are three “pages”. There are two removable “pages” that are used to hold five pens each.

The cool thing is that pen holders are removable. They have magnets that hold them in place on the inside of the front and back covers, but they are easily removed when you want to use the pens.

Each pen holder has a leather front with a wide strip of elastic.

The back of the holder is made of felt. You can see the magnets in the image above.

As promised, the Galan Leather Expansi Pouch is A6-sized. The A6 notebook that they sent me fits perfectly.

The fully loaded pen holder “pages” also fit perfectly. 

There’s even a protective divider flap made of felt that separates the two sets of pen holders to protect the pens from getting scratched. This flap is removable and uses Velcro to stay in place.

The removable pen “pages” feature is what makes this pen pouch stand apart from all the other pen pouches and cases. It’s fun into use and fun to carry.

What I like about the Galen Leather Expansi-Pouch

The Galen Leather Expansi Pouch Pen Case is the type of leather good that you buy once and will enjoy for years and decades to come. It’s expertly crafted, easy to unzip and zip, is roomy enough to hold your 10 favorite pens and you can even carry a notebook or two inside depending on their size. Like all the other Galan Leather products that I’ve reviewed, I can’t find a single flaw or complaint. They make great notebooks, covers, and pouches for those of us who still love to use traditional analog journals and pens.
